During the night of 31st. January 1953 a
northerly gale at the time of an exceptionally high spring tide resulted in a
tidal surge that piled up sea levels far above normal in all lands bordering
the Southern End of the North Sea. Many people were drowned in the
Netherlands and on the East Coast of England, including several unfortunate
families in South Beach Road Hunstanton. These pictures, collected
and kindly loaned by Mrs Norah Green, show some of the extent of the flooding
in Holme next Sea. |
